Receiving my doctorate from the University of Oxford, I am currently a visiting scholar at the Center for Chinese Studies in Taiwan and will work in the University of Saskatchewan’s History Department as a Kent Postdoctoral Fellow in December. In 2016-17, I was the Economic History Society Tawney Fellow (a postdoctoral fellow/junior research fellow) at the Institute of Historical Research in the School of Advanced Study, University of London, and an affiliated researcher in Cambridge University’s Department of East Studies. I am a historian of China (esp. early modern and modern periods) and Hong Kong, with particular emphasis on the maritime and river world, empires and colonialism, frontiers and borderlands, empires, and race and ethnicity.
